 Your 1-Minute Business Leadership Tip

Time to pause.

My friend Kim Weimer is a successful entrepreneur in a family business.

As with any business owner, Kim is busy, but when you meet with her, she’ll make you feel like you are the most important part of her day.

She takes care of her team and clients the same way and builds deep, loyal and long-lasting relationships.  That is part of the culture that helps the business thrive.

Their company has over 45 employees with little turnover and their first client is still a client (and their largest one) today.

Have you ever been in a meeting knowing the person was not fully engaged?  Sometimes it’s obvious if they are looking at their phone or distracted.  They might even tell you, they are just “too busy” and have a lot on their mind!

If you are going to be there, BE THERE.

Leverage the time you invest with important relationships.

Kim knows the value of investing in relationships.  Relationships matter and you build relationships by taking time to pause, listen and share.

The same principle applies to your personal relationships as your business relationships.  When working side-by-side with your children and spouse (I love that her and her husband, Bob still share an office to this day), the growing business could overshadow the family-time.  Kim makes sure family-time together and celebrating life outside of work is priority.

Kim’s principles simply reflect the “golden rule”…to treat others how you want to be treated and remembering that actions speak louder than words.

At your next “meeting”, whether it’s with your employee, supplier, board member, client…or most importantly your spouse or children at the supper table, take time to pause and be there.
