Your 1-Minute Impact Your World Tip

The NSBA Business Builder Awards were held on March 20th and it was an incredible night with many examples of “Persevering to Possibilities” (which was the theme for the night).

My business partner, Andrea Hansen, co-hosted the event with Brenda Nowakowski of JNE Welding, and they were outstanding.

Andrea and Brenda shared some eye-opening statistics about business survival.  Did you know that only 4%-5% of businesses survive beyond 10 years?

If you put 1,000 businesses in a room, 10 years later only 50 would still be in existence.  And if you were to ask those remaining if their revenues were greater than $1 million, only 5 would be left.

So what does it take to succeed?

This was a recurring theme among the sponsors and finalists – to succeed in business you need to persevere.

And you must be proactive.

You need to drive your company culture and vision to hit the goals you’ve set out to reach.  You can’t procrastinate.

A recent article prompted readers to share things they had not “gotten around to.” Here are a few examples:

  • A bathroom that began its redecoration twelve years ago is still not painted. Oh, that hurts!
  • In September, the Christmas tree is still up from the year before.
  • A reader bought a book called 52 Steps To Defeating Procrastination ten years ago and still hasn't read it.
  • Someone lost a cheque for $7,500 and never got around to asking them to issue another one.

In the end, beating procrastination boils down to one thing.

Taking action.

You can do all the reading, Googling, and talking to friends, but if you don’t take action, nothing’s going to happen.

Indecision is costly. Exponentially costly.

Forget the unpainted bathroom. Forget the Christmas tree. Forget the book.

If you want a different future, take action today.
